The UN Says Israeli Settlers Have Carried Out 800 Attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank Since the Gaza Conflict Broke Out

JAKARTA - The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Wednesday announced that illegal Israeli settlers had carried out at least 800 attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank since October 7, it said on Wednesday.

"This includes the killing of more than 30 Palestinians by Israeli forces or settlers, the wounding of nearly 500 others, and damage to dozens of homes, as well as nearly 12,000 trees and 450 vehicles," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said, noting OCHA's warning of the situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is increasing, reported by Daily Sabah 2 May.

OCHA further reported that aid organizations continue to face access obstacles in reaching people in need of assistance in the Gaza Strip, including the rejection of planned missions or prolonged delays at Israeli military checkpoints on roads used to connect north and south Gaza.

The UN agency said more than a quarter of humanitarian missions to northern Gaza in April were blocked by Israeli authorities and 10 percent of them were rejected.

"We and our humanitarian partners are continuing efforts to scale up relief operations whenever and wherever possible," OCHA said in a statement.

When asked about the possibility of a ceasefire in Gaza while talks were underway in Cairo, Dujarric said a ceasefire would make it "easier" for the UN to distribute aid already in Gaza.

It is known that Israel has launched non-stop attacks on the Palestinian enclave since the Hamas attack on October 7 last year which killed around 1,200 people.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health in Gaza said on Wednesday that the number of Palestinians killed in the enclave had reached 34,568 and the number of injured reached 77,765, since the latest Hamas-Israel conflict broke out, quoted by Xinhua.

More than six months into Israel's war, much of Gaza has been destroyed, pushing 85 percent of the enclave's residents to flee amid crippling blockades of food, clean water and medicine, according to the United Nations.

Israel has also been accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which has ordered Tel Aviv to ensure its forces do not commit acts of genocide and to take action to ensure that humanitarian aid is provided to civilians in Gaza.
