Illegal Exports Of Lobster Seeds Still Exist, Trenggono: Honestly, I Can't Prevent It

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) said that illegal export activities of lobster clear seeds (BBL) are still ongoing today. The main goal of exporting the fry is Vietnam.

KP Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono admitted that he was unable to prevent these illegal activities. The reason, he said, was that the KKP itself had issued various related regulations. However, still illegal exports of BBL still pass.

"I can't, to be honest, prevent it," Trenggono said at the 2024 Indonesia Aquaculture Business Forum (IABF) press conference at the Raffles Hotel Jakarta, Monday, April 29.

"We made an arrangement of the Minister of KP (Permen KP) when I was present as Minister of KP. Two years later we did research, what happened was that we couldn't close it. There were, really, once or twice who were arrested, but there were more who passed," he continued.

With the issuance of the KP Permen, Trenggono admitted that illegal exports of BBL had not stopped. Then, he made the decision to close the tap for exporting illegal BBL in the hope that the activity would really stop.

However, until now, BBL's illegal export activities have not been stopped.

"But, if we really close the BBL export, Vietnam will definitely stop completely because no more BBL has entered there. But, in fact it continues and the number is large," said Trenggono.

"And when I asked what happened in ordinary shirts, what happened. In the villages, it was shown that they were already big, packaged and sent via China there," he added.

Thus, Trenggono continued, cooperation between the Indonesian government and Vietnam is needed. Through this collaboration, it is hoped that Vietnam can invest in Indonesia to develop Lobster cultivation in the country.

"If we can't do it like that, we have to work together and collaborate. That's what the MARD minister then received. Then, we talked and then the MARD minister also came to Indonesia to follow up to this day," he added.
