KPUPR Targets IKN Airport To Be Completed In July 2024, Supports RI's 79th Anniversary Ceremony

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) said that the construction of VVIP Airport in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) will soon be completed. This is to support the activities of implementing the 79th Indonesian Independence Day at IKN.

Chairman of the IKN Infrastructure Development Task Force of the Ministry of PUPR Danis Sumadilaga said the IKN VVIP Airport runway was worked on for 3,000 meters (km). Of this number, around 90 percent will be ready to be used for the 79th Indonesian Independence Day.

"The runway is 3 km long, 2,200 meters can be used on August 17. (Finally) July for use in August, God willing," said Danis when met by reporters at the PUPR Ministry office, Friday, April 26.

Danis said the construction of the VVIP IKN airport was carried out by two ministries, namely the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) which focuses on building airport terminal buildings.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of PUPR focuses on working on the runway.

"The term was carried out by the (Ministry) of Transportation. Well, that's already 36 percent. So, there is a target in August, there is a target by the end of 2024," he said.

In order to support the access of the ceremony participants at the 79th Indonesian Independence Day, VVIP Airport at IKN will later be integrated with IKN Access Tok Road Section 5B.

Previously, the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said that VVIP Airport at IKN could be tested in July 2024.

This was revealed by the Minister of Transportation Budi while reviewing the progress of the IKN Airport construction on Tuesday, April 23.

"So far, the progress of the IKN Airport construction has been going well and according to plan. Seeing its development, I am optimistic that this airport can be tested in July," he said.

During the review, Budi also checked a number of locations. One of them is the point that will be the runway.

"Earlier I saw that there was one soil improvement (land improvement) work in several runway locations. Broadly speaking, the work is already good," he said.

According to Budi, the construction of IKN Airport is being carried out very seriously. All workers work intensively to ensure that the project can be completed on time.

Budi also appreciated the workers who have preserved nature while working on IKN Airport.

"I am also happy because the work on this airport still maintains natural greenness according to instructions from the President (Joko Widodo)," he added.
