Minister Of Energy And Mineral Resources And IEA Sign Joint Work For Energy Transition Program

JAKARTA - In a series of working visits to the World Energy Congress (WEC) Rotterdam and the International Energy Agency (IEA) Global Summit on People-Cendred Clean Energy Transitions Paris, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif signed the Joint Work Program (JWP) 2024-2025 with Executive Director of IEA Fatih Birul.

This Cooperation Program aims to support the acceleration of the energy transition in Indonesia and facilitate the achievement of the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target.

In his remarks, Arifin said that the cooperation between Indonesia and the IEA had been going on since 2006, and in 2015 Indonesia formally joined as a member of the IEA. JWP 2024-2025 was the sixth agreed JWP.

"The JWP signed today is the sixth JWP which aims to accelerate the energy transition target and NZE Indonesia. Indonesia has also committed to achieving NZE goals. We hope that the IEA will continue to support, as previously cooperated, 2 years ago," said Arifin, Friday, April 26.

Arifin said, during the current JWP period, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will prioritize cooperation in the field of data and accurate energy statistics for policy making and policy development analysis with the support of capacity building.

"During this cooperation period, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will prioritize the development of systems and applications, data and information, capacity building, and research that has been approved together with the IEA," he added.

There are several new things within the scope of JWP 2024-2025, including IEA support for the development of the national electricity database, CCS/CCUS, studies in the field of bioenergy and energy efficiency, and understanding of the condition of Indonesian methane emissions based on the Global Methane Tracker.
