Targeting Two Million Tons Of Production, KKP Launches Traditional Plus Shrimp Pond Pilot Project
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) through the Maritime and Fisheries Human Resources Counseling and Development Agency (BPPSDM KP) collaborates with eFishery and UNIDO, launching a pilot project for traditional shrimp farming plus.
One of the BPPSDM KP extension units, namely the Budi Daya Air Payau Fisheries Research Center and Fishery Counseling (BRPBAP3) Maros, South Sulawesi, said that the traditional shrimp cultivation pilot activity plus was carried out at the Silvofishery Marana pond installation, Maros, which has been designated as a Smart Fisheries Village (SFV) based on the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT), developed by BPPSDM KP through the BRPBAP3 Maros work unit.
"In traditional shrimp cultivation plus pilot activities, BRPBAP3 Maros provides a traditional two-hectare (ha) pond," said Head of BRPBAP3 Maros A Indra Jaya Asaad quoted from the KKP official website, Thursday, April 25.
Indra assessed that the development of traditional shrimp ponds plus is more environmentally sustainable because it does not convert productive land, is able to maintain mangrove areas, low in carbon footprint and is more environmentally friendly.
Meanwhile, eFishery Vice President of Public Affairs Muhammad Chairil said this program is the first step in how to carry out shrimp farming with technology developed by eFishery and operating standards of procedures (SOPs) that have been created by UNIDO.
The Global Quality and Standards Program (GQSP) UNIDO Indonesia Boedi Juliati said that currently UNIDO has developed a traditional shrimp cultivation SOP plus which can be applied to the Silvofishery Marana pond installation.
The traditional shrimp cultivation operational procedure plus is used as a reference for the traditional plus vaname shrimp breeding activity, which starts from the preparation of ponds, preparation and management of water quality, the spread of fry, enlargement of shrimp, feed management and the implementation of harvest.
The purpose of this procedure is as a guide to increase the productivity of ponds and farmers' income through the application of good and correct shrimp farming methods to produce high-quality, environmentally friendly, guaranteed food security, efficient, profitable and sustainable shrimp.

Meanwhile, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (Minister of KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said that his party will focus on achieving the set target, one of which is the achievement of shrimp production of 2 million tons by 2024.
"I want to pursue the target given by the government. When I was appointed as Minister of the KP, there was one target in 2024 to achieve national shrimp production of two million tons," he said.
