South Korea U-23 Wants To Extend Good Record In The 2024 U-23 Asian Cup

JAKARTA - South Korea U-23 will face Indonesia U-23 in the quarter-finals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Friday, April 26, 2024, early morning WIB.

Taegeuk Warriors have a good trend in undergoing the knockout stages of the U-23 Asian Cup. In four consecutive editions, they always made it through the quarter-finals.

The only failure of South Korea U-23 to advance to the semifinals occurred in the 2022 or fifth edition. At that time, they lost to Japan U-23 in the quarter-finals.

This means that of the five U-23 Asian Cups that have been previously held, South Korea U-23 can touch the semifinals in four editions, the most compared to any team.

South Korea's classy U-23, who has never missed the U-23 Asian Cup, wants to be continued by coach Hwang Sun-hong.

Moreover, South Korea U-23 ended their journey in Group B as group winners with perfect nine points and without conceding in three matches.

However, Hwang Sun-hong did not want to make the note on paper a reference. He wants his troops to focus on looking at the match in front of him.

"It has become history. What is important is what is in front of us. We will do our best to prepare for the match against Indonesia U-23 and win," Hwang said on the AFC website.

Hwang further admitted that the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup had its own difficulties. Moreover, they were faced with fitness issues throughout the group stage.

Luckily, the Taegeuk Warriors players have a strong determination to win so that so far they can still get positive results.

"As we expected before the tournament started, it was definitely a tough group for us. The game we played was tough and tough," said the 55-year-old coach. "However, the players are determined to win every game. They performed very well. So, I'm happy with that," Hwang said again.

Just like Indonesia U-23, the 2020 U-23 Asian Cup winner is also eyeing the semifinals for the chance to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
