Shin Tae-yong Officially Gets Contract Extension, Trains The Indonesian National Team Until 2027
JAKARTA - Shin Tae-yong officially received a contract extension to coach the Indonesian national team until 2027. This assurance was conveyed by the General Chairperson (Ketum) of PSSI, Erick Thohir.
In fact, the South Korean coach's contract ended in June 2024 since his first collaboration in 2019.
However, Shin then received a temporary contract extension for six months along with the 2023 Asian Cup agenda.
In the duration of the temporary extension, Shin was also given the target as consideration to continue the permanent contract extension.
The 53-year-old coach was asked to be able to bring the Indonesian national team to qualify for the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup and the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup quarter-finals.

Both targets were in fact successfully met by Shin Tae-yong. To fulfill the promised that had been agreed upon, Erick Thohir immediately realized the coach's contract extension.
"After enjoying the typical South Korean food and discussions about the Indonesian national team program until 2027, coach Shin Tae-yong and I agreed to continue working together," said Erick Thohir in an upload on his social media quoted on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
Apart from the extension of the new contract, Shin is still fighting in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup with Indonesia U-23. Garuda Muda currently managed to qualify for the quarter-finals after bagging two wins in three group stage matches.
In the quarter-finals, the U-23 Indonesian national team will face South Korea U-23 who is the winner of Group B with a perfect score of nine points without ever conceding.
Even though they have reached the target in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup, there is another big mission that can be pursued by Shin Tae-yong and the U-23 Indonesian national team, which is to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In order to be able to appear at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the first requirement that must be exceeded by the U-23 Indonesian national team is to be able to qualify for the semifinals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.
If they qualify for the semifinals, finishing in the top three will guarantee a ticket directly to Paris. Meanwhile, if you sit in fourth place, aka the semifinalist, it will take the U-23 Indonesian national team to play a playoff match against the African representative (CAF), Guinea, to fight for one ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
