Kia EV9 And Niro EV Affected By Recalls In The US Over The Failure Of This Component

JAKARTA - Bad news came from the automotive brand from South Korea, Kia. The manufacturer announced that the two models, namely EV9 and Niro EV, were affected by the recall in the United States (US).

Although it had to be withdrawn from circulation, the recall program only involved 8 units of vehicles with very easy repairs.

According to a Carscoops report, Wednesday, April 24, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that differential gear bolts in the Gear Drive Unit (GDU) on EV9 and Niro EV may not have been properly tightened during assembly.

This means that the bolts on differentials can slack off and damage the GDU system or reductive dental system when the car is running. According to the agency, damaged GDU houses or reductive teeth can result in power loss and cause differentials to be locked.

Thus, the owner may feel a strange sound while driving his vehicle. This problematic part is assembled by the Hyundai Transys factory.

In detail, this recall had an impact on 4 Niro EV units produced between 7 November 2022 and 16 May 2023 and 4 EV9 units assembled between 27 October and 14 December 2023.

The owner of the affected vehicle will be notified by first-class letter on May 17 and instructed to bring the brand's electric vehicle to the nearest Kia dealer network.

The technicians will replace the gear drive unit for free. The brand will reimburse the owner who has previously paid to fix the problem.

This is not the first recall involving Kia vehicles in Uncle Sam's country. Last month, vehicles from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis were affected by the recall involving an e-GMP platform-based EV in the US.

A number of these models were withdrawn because the internal components of the integrated charging control unit could integrate, thus hampering 12V battery charging.
