The Ministry Of Environment And Forestry Calls The Land Of Ex-mining Recovered To Reach 265,792 Ha
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) noted that throughout 2023 there were 233 companies that contributed to the restoration of the former mining area of 265,792 hectares (ha).
In addition, there are six companies that have recovered 76.8 ha of abandoned mining land.
Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya said the government continues to encourage peat management, land restoration and development of environmental quality monitoring information systems. Recovery of former mining locations that still have environmental functions is one example.
"This concept is then replicated and until 2023 by restoring former mining land in 25 locations with a total area of 235 hectares," said Siti at the 2024 Environmental Control Festival at the Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta, written Wednesday, April 24.
Siti encourages all levels of society and stakeholders to overcome environmental pollution and restoration.
He said collaboration between the government, business world, society and academics is expected to create policies, technology and sustainable practices to preserve the environment.
Situ Nurbaya added that the replication of environmental recovery programs was also carried out through partnerships with companies through the PROPER program.
This program is expected to replicate habitat and maintain biodiversity.
On this occasion, Siti also explained the development of an information system and monitoring of environmental quality.
There are two systems developed, namely information about air quality is presented in the form of calculating the Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) and monitoring of automatic water quality (Onlimo).
Since 2016, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has developed an air quality monitoring system and water quality that prioritizes domestic production.
The results have built 194 quality monitoring stations during 2015-2023.
Meanwhile, the number of integrated stations is 154 units and 68 units of Ambien Air Quality Monitoring Station (SPKUA) have been built.
In addition, a system is also developed that directly monitors wastewater and air emissions from the industry.
