RI Offers Irrigation Projects To Hydropower Plants At The World Water Forum

JAKARTA - Indonesia offers a number of its strategic projects to be included in the 2024 World Water Forum compoundium in Bali, starting from the modernization of irrigation with the World Bank to hydroelectric power plants (PLTA).

"The strategic project (Indonesia) offered is about the modernization of irrigation, about drinking water, dams, about hydropower. That's what we hope will appear in the compoundium," said Spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Endra S Atmawidjaja quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 23.

In the strategic projects proposed by Indonesia, said Endra, there are projects that have been running, will run, and new initiatives.

The three types of projects were then compiled in a compoundium that became an attachment to the Declaration of the Minister or Ministerial Declaration in the World Water Forum (WWF) 2024.

"So, the compoundum for this project is not only for Indonesia, but the whole world because this is indeed for a world forum," he said.

Regarding the offer of strategic projects worth 9.6 billion US dollars, Endra explained, this amount does not only come from Indonesian strategic projects, but includes strategic projects originating from other countries.

"For Indonesia, I haven't seen the nominal amount, exactly, but this number will continue to grow," he said.

He invited all ministries, institutions, and the community to participate in the success of the implementation of the 10th WWF, which will be held in Bali on May 18, 2024.

"Then also have an impact on Indonesia's global image, about Indonesia's strong leadership," he said.

Just so you know, the 10th World Water Forum focuses on four things, namely water conservation, clean water and sanitation, food and energy security, and mitigation of natural disaster.

A total of 244 sessions in the forum are expected to provide concrete results regarding the mainstreaming of integrated water management for small islands or integrated water resources management (IWRM) on small islands, the establishment of a center of excellence or the best practice for water and climate security or the Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience (COE), as well as the determination of World Lake Day.
