BRIN Researcher Reveals The Cause Of The Spreading Of Mount Space Gas Emissions

JAKARTA - Researcher from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Eddy Hermawan revealed that the eruption of Mount Ruang in Siau Tagulandang Biaro Regency, North Sulawesi produced incandescent lava bursts and released sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas that spread throughout Indonesia.Tropical cyclones in northwest Sumatra Island and the Indian Ocean Dipol (IOD) that are starting to negatively help the spread of sulfur dioxide gas."The current rain has nothing to do with the distribution of sulfur dioxide gas due to the eruption of Mount Ruang," said Eddy, who is also a researcher in the climate and atmosphere of BRIN when contacted in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, April 23.The wind vortex in northwest Sumatra Island has drawn water vapor from Australia and the Pacific Sea. sulfur dioxide gas coming out of the crater of Mount Ruang is also spread along with tropical cyclones.According to him, water vapor (including gas) should move to the northern hemisphere because the center of low pressure is currently in the north."The eruption does not cause major weather anomalies. The current rain is more dominated by the negative influence of the IOD and the presence of tropical cyclones in northwest Sumatra Island," he said.He explained that the sulfur dioxide gas that spread due to the eruption of Mount Ruang did not cause acid rain as was widely discussed by the public on social media. The highest eruption of Mount Ruang was recorded at three kilometers on Wednesday (17/4), at 20.15 WITA.
"Be careful in defining acid rain, when measured PH must be above 7. So, as long as there is no real measurement, you should be careful," said Eddy.
