Present At The International Forum, Pertamina Pamer Boss Works On 40 Oil And Gas Blocks

JAKARTA - Director of Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati explained a number of Pertamina's roles as SOEs that manage energy in an integrated manner with the complexity of the energy ecosystem in Indonesia while attending the 2024 Hannover Messe International.

"Pertamina is the only SOE that develops an integrated energy business including upstream, central and downstream operations. Our reach is not only limited to the domestic market, we are also present significantly abroad. However, our main goal is to continue to strengthen the independence and energy resilience in our country," Nicke said in a statement to the media, Tuesday, April 23.

Nicke added that the upstream Pertamina business manages 40 domestic oil and gas blocks and 25 foreign oil and gas blocks.

Nicke said Pertamina operates 24 percent of domestic blocks and contributes significantly to domestic oil production reaching 70 percent and gas 28 percent.

Furthermore, Nicke revealed, Pertamina's strategy in developing refineries is in the midst of a global energy transition.

According to him, although the Company is committed to a sustainable business, energy security remains a top priority.

"Efforts to develop refineries focus on increasing efficiency, reducing sulfur and nitrogen content and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions," he explained.

"To answer the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy," explained Nicke, Pertamina strengthened gas fuel as a bridge.

With abundant gas reserves, currently Pertamina is focusing on strengthening central and downstream infrastructure.

In addition, he continued, Pertamina has also moved to renewable energy sources such as geothermal heat.

In the energy transportation business, Pertamina already has 700 vessels that facilitate domestic and international trade and form an integral part of Pertamina's integrated energy value chain.

"As SOEs, we are responsible for providing energy that is easily accessible, clean, and affordable to the Indonesian people and ensuring a fair distribution of energy throughout the country," said Nicke.

In the energy transition era, he added, Pertamina adopted a dual growth strategy, namely strengthening its legacy business to meet energy security, affordability, and accessibility.

But at the same time, they also carry out a decarbonization program. As for renewable energy, Pertamina develops low-carbon products starting from natural resources in Indonesia, such as Geothermal, Biofuel, and CPO.

To support this dual growth strategy, said Nicke, Pertamina has carried out a sustainable and digitalization business transformation.

According to him, digitalization is one of Pertamina's strategic agendas to control broad and complex operations from upstream, middle and downstream.

We believe that accelerated digital transformation will take advantage of our position in terms of market value. So we are more focused and allocate part of the budget and resources for digitization," he said.
