Due To The Eruption Of Mount Ruang, Indonesia AirAsia Cancels Flights To Kinabalu City

The spread of volcanic ash from Mount Ruang in Sitaro Regency, North Sulawesi, which has increased since Tuesday, April 16, has made Indonesian airline AirAsia cancel two flights to and from Kinabalu City, Malaysia. "Based on the latest developments and policies of Indonesian airline AirAsia canceled flights to and from Kinabalu City, Malaysia related to the distribution of volcanic ash from Mount Ruang which could potentially endanger flight operations," said AirAsia's Head of Government Relations and Corporate Communications AirAsia Eddy Krismeidi as quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, April 20. Furthermore, Eddy said that all Indonesian AirAsia flights with routes to the city of Kinabalu, Malaysia had to be cancelled. This was done by considering flight safety and security factors.

"We understand that this may cause inconvenience to all passengers and we apologize for the disruption to the passenger's travel plan," said Eddy. "However, the safety of Indonesian AirAsia flights and all passengers are our priority, and we appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all passengers," he said. Until now, Indonesia AirAsia is still monitoring and coordinating with the relevant aviation authorities before reopening flight routes to affected destinations.

Pembatalan penerbangan tersebut terhitung mulai Kamis, 18 April 2024 dan akan kembali beroperasi setelah wilayah udara dinyatakan aman oleh regulator.

Therefore, Indonesia AirAsia also urges customers who will travel to meet the travel requirements according to the latest provisions set by the government. For more information, visit the official social media page of Indonesia AirAsia.
