Anticipating The Impact Of Mount Ruang Eruption Ash, The City Government Urges Manado Residents To Wear Masks
NORTH SULAWESI - The City Government (Pemkot) of Manado appealed to its citizens to use masks to anticipate the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Ruang in Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut).
"In response to the spread of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Ruang in the Sitaro Islands Regency, the Manado City Government appealed to the people of Manado City who will move outside their homes to wear masks," said Deputy Mayor (Wawalkot) Manado Richard Sulalang, in Manado, North Sulawesi, Thursday, April 18, confiscated by Antara.
He said the volcanic ash inhaled could cause various health problems, such as acute upper respiratory tract inflammation, and inflammation of the eye membranes.
"For a long time it can cause inflammation in the lungs," he said.
He explained that the people of Manado must be vigilant, and if there are no important matters, it is better to stay at home.

The history of the eruption of Mount Ruang has been recorded since 1808 and has intervals ranging from 1 to 30 years. In 2002 Mount Ruang also experienced explosive eruptions accompanied by hot clouds that resulted in damage to land and settlements and required residents to evacuate to safe places.
After falling asleep for 22 years, on April 16, 2024, Mount Ruang again woke up and spewed various volcanic materials ranging from lava, gas, rock, to ash. Now seismic activity is still high and eruptions are still happening.
