The Minister Of Communication And Information Leaked The Contents Of President Jokowi's Meeting With Apple Boss

JAKARTA - Apple CEO Tim Cook met with President Joko Widodo on Wednesday, April 17 at the Presidential Palace. This one-hour meeting has agreed on several important matters.

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said in a separate press conference that in this meeting, the government wanted Indonesia to contribute directly to the global supply chain of the technology industry.

"Why? Because there are 360 components of the cellphone, for example, Apple only 2 were made in Indonesia compared to the 45thnam 72 components, so the President conveyed that Apple should increase Indonesia's role in the global supply chain and Apple welcome it," said Budi.

Furthermore, Jokowi also invited Apple to participate in the development of Smart City in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN). Currently, Apple has also built human resource development in Indonesia through 3 Apple Developers Academy located in Batam, BSD, and Surabaya. And the fourth will later be built in Bali.

"So one of them also included how the manufacturing process might be in Indonesia, because there are many of us open markets and Apple products, don't just import any added value in Indonesia," added Budi.

Budi also mentioned that Apple has invested IDR 1.2 trillion through three Apple Developers Academy. Meanwhile, if it is added to the Apple Developer Academy which will be built in Bali later, the total investment amount is IDR 1.6 trillion.

Budi said that Apple is still considering investment value for others, including building Apple's official factory in Indonesia.

"There is (a government push in the construction of the factory), it is being discussed, how Apple can build or hold its manufacturing process in Indonesia," he concluded.
