Ex-Karutan Sues Pretrial, KPK Ensures Investigation Of Alleged Extortion Of Detention In Accordance With Rules

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed the investigation of alleged illegal levies in detention centers according to the rules. Formal or material requirements have been met.

This was conveyed by the Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri in response to the pretrial lawsuit of the former Head of the KPK Detention Center, Achmad Fauzi, who was a suspect in this case.

"In determining someone as a suspect, the KPK certainly takes into account the formal and material requirements. So that the KPK is certainly ready to face the pretrial," Ali said in a written statement, Wednesday, April 17.

Ali ensured that his institution respects the pretrial filing process at the South Jakarta District Court (PN). This legal effort is indeed the right of a suspect," he continued.

"KPK respects the submission which is the right of every suspect in a legal process to test the formal requirements in determining a person as a suspect," he said.

As previously reported, former KPK Karutan Achmad Fauzi filed a pretrial lawsuit at the South Jakarta District Court (PN) on Friday, April 5. Registered case number 46/Pid.Pra/2024/PN JKT.SEL.

As for this case, 15 were named as suspects in the alleged extortion of the KPK detention center. They include the Head of the KPK Detention Center Achmad Fauzi, former Acting KPK Karutan Deden Rochendi and Ristanta, and Hengki who are ex-Kamtib Detention Centers.

The suspects allegedly managed to collect up to IDR 6.3 billion for four years from 2019-2023.

The money was obtained from detainees in corruption cases with various amounts ranging from Rp. 300 thousand to Rp. 20 million. The handover is carried out directly or through a holding bank account controlled by the lurah and corting.

After giving money, the detainees received exclusive facilities in the KPK detention center. One of them can use a cellphone or power bank.

Meanwhile, those who do not pay or are late in depositing receive uncomfortable treatment. Among them, the detention room is locked from the outside, violations and reductions in sports rations, and gets a guard quota and more hygiene pickets.
