US Dollar Strengthens, Airlangga Says Indonesian Fundamentals Are Still Quite Good

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto opened his voice regarding the cause of the weakening of the Rupiah exchange rate against the United States (US) dollar, one of which was due to the heated conflict between Iran and Israel.

On the other hand, Airlangga said that the weakening of the Rupiah exchange rate is better than several currencies in other countries such as Malaysia and China because Indonesia's economic fundamentals are relatively better.

"Regarding the Rupiah index, we will see if we compare it with various other countries, relatively, of course we are a little better than Malaysia and China," said Airlangga after the Halal Bihalal event at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 16.

Airlangga conveyed that the weakening of the Rupiah exchange rate was deeper than South Korean (South Korea's) and Thai baht.

"What is better than us is South Korea and Thailand. So we are not those who are highly affected, but many countries are more affected by us because our economic fundamentals are relatively good," he said.

Based on RTI data at 15.35 WIB, the weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar was indeed the deepest among other currencies.
