Production Is Still Far From Target, RI Needs New Oil Well Findings

JAKARTA - Indonesia's oil production in the 1st Quarter of 2024 is still far from the target.

For information, until the first quarter, Indonesia's oil lifting has only reached 563,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) or 88.5 percent in the APBN target set at 635,000 BOPD.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's gas distribution was recorded at 5,075 MMSCFD or 87.7 percent of the APBN target set at 5,784 MMSCFD.

Director General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Tutuka Ariadji said, for the time being, Indonesia's oil production is still limited to curbing production in the upstream oil and gas or decline.

However, he still thanked the Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) who tried to hold back the decline.

"If we both know that our production, we can withstand the decline, I still thank the KKKS who are resistant to decline not to be too sharp. If you look at the declie, it is a bit flatter than before, but the one that hasn't been able to increase production," he said when met at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Building, Tuesday, April 16.

Tutuka said, to transmit domestic oil production, it must be accompanied by the discovery of new oil reserves or or utilizing advanced oil depletion technology or Environment Oil Recovery (EOR) used in old wells so that they can increase reserves and then automatically increase the production or age of oil and gas wells.

"If not, it will be resistant to the current work over and drilling," added Tutuka.

Moreover, he continued, currently the KKKS is the one who explores the most finding gas fields.

"That is our fate but of course it must be used as much as possible," concluded Tutuka.
