Floods In Pasuruan, Two People Died Of Power And Were Dragged Away By The Current
SURABAYA - The floods that hit Pasuruan Regency and City, East Java caused two deaths.
Head of BPBD Pasuruan Regency, Sugeng Hariyadi, said that on Tuesday (9/4), one 40 year old person died from being electrocuted in Pasuruan Regency, while in Pasuruan City one child aged two years drowned around his house because he could not swim when the water discharge increased.
The flood that has occurred since Monday (8/4) was caused by the overflow of the Aloras Sungai (DAS) Welang, Kedungbaran, Petung and Badong areas due to the intensity of moderate to heavy rain in the upstream area of the river at around 23.30 local time.
BPBD Pasuruan Regency has distributed logistical assistance and equipment for flood management, namely 4 rubber boats for evacuation, ready-to-eat food assistance and packaged rice for affected residents.
In addition, the East Java Provincial BPBD also deployed a Rapid Response Team to the scene which was equipped with 1 rubber boat, 1 motorbike, 5 boxes of ready-to-eat food and mineral water.
Based on data compiled by BPBD East Java Province, a number of sub-districts affected by flooding in Pasuruan Regency include Kraton, Pohjentrek, Bangil, Beji, Rembang, Gondangwetan sub-districts. Meanwhile, in Pasuruan City, it includes Gadingrejo, Purworejo, Panggungrejo and Bugul Kidul sub-districts.
In addition to residential areas, Surabaya-Probolinggo road access was also affected by flooding.
Sugeng appealed to people who go home, they can still go through toll roads because they are not affected. However, the Surabaya-Probolinggo public road access is temporarily closed because there are still puddles of flood water.
However, people with two-wheeled vehicles can pass through alternative roads through Bangil District, enter Sukorejo, then Purwosari can only reach Pasuruan. Although the road is turned but it is safer for motorcyclists.
Considering that until now the weather at the scene was cloudy and light rain was still being observed, the joint team used a sand bag around the river area to prevent overflowing water upstream from entering residential areas. BPBD Pasuruan Regency has coordinated with the provincial government to normalize the river as a precautionary measure in the future.
Previously, the affected communities had been evacuated to the local Village Hall and are currently returning to their homes because the puddles in several sub-districts have gradually receded.
