National Police Chief Affirms Contraflow On Trans Java Toll Road Still Needed

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that a two-way traffic engineering system in one lane or contraflow on the Trans Java Toll Road is still needed.

He expressed this in a press conference regarding the traffic accident at kilometer 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road at the Jasamarga Transjawa Toll Road office, Karawang, West Java.

According to him, the implementation of the contraflow system on the Jakarta Cikampek Toll Road is still needed to regulate the smooth flow of traffic during the Eid holiday.

The reason is, based on data from PTJasa Marga, it is known that 605,689 vehicles came from the west of Java (Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi/Jabotabek) to the east or an increase of 60-70 percent compared to the Lebaran homecoming period in 2023. In fact, until D-2 it is estimated that there will still be 30 percent of the total number of people who will travel this year's Eid homecoming.

"It is done based on the needs and conditions in the field, meaning that this management is good, by comparing 2023 ago," said Kapoolri as reported by ANTARA.

It's just that when asked if there was a connection between the contraflow and the accident, the National Police Chief said that his party was still conducting a thorough evaluation.

Sigit also ensured that the evaluation would take advantage of all the data it had, such as notes obtained through surveillance camera (CCTV) footage or the results of the crime scene processing.

"So that everything can be used for future repairs," he said.

An accident on the opposite lane at KM 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road occurred on Monday morning. This accident involved three vehicles, namely Primajasa Bus Nopol B 7655 TGD, Gran Max Nopol B 1635 BKT and Daihatsu Terios.

In addition to the two injured people, there were 12 other people who died as a result of the accident, consisting of seven men and five women. The 12 victims who died were in the recovery room of the body of the Karawang Hospital. In the accident, the Gran Max and Terios car were burned down. The 12 victims were passengers of the Gran Max car. Meanwhile, from the Terios car there were no victims, and from the Primajasa bus there were two people injured.
