ICW Highlights The Pretrial Of Eddy Hiariej At The Presidential Election Dispute Session: Pretrial Does Not Break The Cancellation Of KPK Investigations

JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher Kurnia Ramadhana said Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej had the right to attend the 2024 presidential election dispute hearing at the Constitutional Court (MK) as an expert witness for the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka camp. However, he mentioned the case of receiving gratuities that ensnared the former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights.

It is known that Eddy was named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) but this legal status was canceled by the South Jakarta District Court (PN). He is suspected of accepting bribes from the boss of PT Citra Lampia Mandiri (CLM), Helmut Hermawan.

"The single judge who cut off Eddy's request did not actually cancel the investigation, but only the administrative file for determining the suspect," Kurnia said in a written statement, Thursday, April 4.

ICW urges the anti-corruption commission to convey the progress of the case that ensnared Eddy. Kurnia said the KPK must do so as a form of accountability to the public and provide legal certainty.

"a'ICW urges the KPK to immediately announce a follow-up to the handling of the case that allegedly ensnared Eddy and immediately re-established the person concerned as a suspect in the alleged receipt of bribes and gratuities," said the anti-corruption activist.

According to Kurnia, the KPK should not have a hard time processing Eddy. And the KPK should have determined the suspect Eddy to be carried out simultaneously," he said.

Previously reported, Eddy and his two subordinates were named suspects by the KPK. He is suspected of receiving money from Helmut Hermawan of up to Rp. 8 billion.

Helmut is suspected of giving money related to administrative management at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, and the promise of giving SP3 cases at Bareskrim. However, recently the South Jakarta District Court canceled Eddy's legal status after he filed a pretrial.
