BPS Reveals March 2024 Inflation To Increase To 0.52 Percent
JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported inflation in March 2024 reaching 0.52 percent on a monthly basis or month to month (mtm).
Acting (Plt) Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said this inflation was triggered by an increase in food, rice, sugar, chicken meat, chicken eggs and garlic, during this Ramadan.
Meanwhile, inflation in March 2024 on an annual basis or year on year (yoy) reached 3.05 percent and inflation in the calendar year or year to date (ytd) was 0.93 percent.
"The monthly inflation rate in March 2024 is relatively higher than the previous month and the same month last year. The largest monthly inflation contributor expenditure group comes from food and tobacco," he explained in a BPS release, Monday, April 1, 2024.
Amalia said that inflation in March 2024 was mainly driven by inflation in the food, beverage and tobacco spending group. The group in February 2024 recorded inflation of 1.42 percent (mom) with an inflationary contribution of 0.41 percent.
He conveyed that the food and beverage commodity provided an inflation rate of 1.42 percent and contributed 0.41 percent.

Meanwhile, the main commodities contributing to inflation in this group are broiler eggs with a share of 0.09 percent, broiler meat with a share of 0.09 percent, rice with a share of 0.09 percent, cayenne pepper with a share of 0.02 percent garlic with a share of 0.02 percent.
Then, in the food, beverage and tobacco group, there are also several commodities that contributed to deflation, including red chilies and tomatoes with a deflation of 0.2 percent each.
