Tesla Capai Production Of 6 Million Electric Cars, Can Others Chase?
JAKARTA - Tesla has just announced the success of producing 6 million electric cars. This is certainly an important moment for the well-known electric car manufacturer.
However, as reported by Carscoops, March 31, Tesla should be able to exceed the announced production figures. It is the decline in demand for global electric vehicles is suspected to hamper Tesla's production capacity. It is known, since the beginning of the year the demand for electric vehicles in several regions in the world has slowed.
On the one hand, the production of 6 million electric cars from Tesla has so far exceeded the achievements of other electric car manufacturers, including BYD from China, which recently celebrated the production of their 7 million plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles.

Tesla seems to have deliberately put a brake on their production rate. This indication can be seen from the time it takes to reach 6 million. Tesla was originally predicted to reach this figure in early 2024, but the reality was only reached at the end of March.
The production delay can be explained by several factors from Tesla itself. First, Tesla's slowing sales performance in the first quarter of 2024, making it the worst quarter since 2022. This sluggish sale could be due to intense competition with BYD, factory closures, and a slowdown in overall market demand.
Second, it is possible that Tesla is regulating their production to maximize profits and demand. Just like other automakers like Ford have cut production targets, Tesla doesn't seem to be operating at full capacity either. This strategy could be Tesla's anticipatory measure against market trends.
Despite missing the production target, Tesla is actually still experiencing an 8 percent increase in overall sales in the first quarter. Will Tesla be able to spur their production again in the midst of heated market competition? Moreover, there is a new manufacturer that cannot be taken lightly into the electric vehicle market, namely Xiaomi, where with its reputation on the smartphone market as a flagship killer, Xiaomi has begun to carry the jargon to automotive by launching SU7 at affordable prices.
