West Kalimantan Putussibau District Court Demands The Death Penalty For Malaysian Foreigners Smuggling Methamphetamine

KAPUAS HULU - Putussibau District Court, Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan demanded the death penalty for a foreign national (WNA) from Malaysia named Dom Sebau as a defendant in a criminal case of smuggling methamphetamine.

"The prosecutor found the defendant guilty of carrying and smuggling methamphetamine by violating Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics," said Public Relations of the Putussibau District Court, Crista Yulianta Prabandana, in Putussibau Kapuas Hulu, Thursday, March 28.

The defendant, who was carrying and smuggling 20 kilograms of methamphetamine, was caught by soldiers from the Pamtas Yonarmed 10 Brajamusti Task Force together with members of Koramil 1206/18 Puring Kencana, on the "rat road" in Sei Mawang Village, Puring Kencana District, Kapuas Hulu Regency (30/10/2023), then a legal process was carried out until the court.

Crista Yulianta explained that for the death penalty against the defendant, the Panel of Judges at the Putussibau District Court gave the defendant the right to file a memorandum of defense which would be read out by his attorney.

On Thursday (2/11/2023), Kapuas Hulu Regent Fransiskus Diaan, hoped that drug smuggling cases could be investigated to drug dealers who are international networks.

"We appreciate the achievements of the TNI and its ranks in thwarting drug smuggling, if not thwarted, it will certainly have a broad impact and damage the future of the younger generation in Kapuas Hulu," said Fransiskus.
