Pressuring Imports, Erick Thohir Will Acquire A Husbandry Company To Foreign Owned Salt
JAKARTA - The government continues to strive to overcome dependence on imported goods. State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir said the efforts to be made include acquiring foreign companies in a number of sectors.
"We are planning to acquire livestock, phosphate mining, salt mining abroad to reduce dependence on imports," said Erick Thohir in the 2021 Investor Forum Webinar, Wednesday, March 3.
According to Erick Thohir, the process of acquiring companies in that sector is part of 88 initiatives that will be implemented in stages starting this year until 2023.
Not only that, Erick Thohir also wants state-owned companies to become global players. So that it can serve national interests to increase competitiveness.
"This is also to improve the supply chain, encourage national economic growth, to make SOEs a global player," he said.
According to Erick, this plan will help boost Indonesia's economic growth to the fifth largest by 2045. To achieve this target, BUMNs also open opportunities for cooperation with private companies, including in Indonesia.
"We are committed to working with the private sector to build sustainable growth in Indonesia," he said.
