Answering Global Automotive Market Dynamics, Hyundai Rebuilds R&D For ICE Machines

Hyundai Motor Group is reported to have rebuilt a dedicated research and development division (R&D) for the latest generation combustion engine (ICE).

Reporting from the Korean Car Blog, Wednesday, March 27, this step was taken to meet global automotive market demand after the company focused on efforts to develop electrification for more than two years.

This development involved as many as 150 to 200 experts in shaping the engine design space. It aims to gather R&D's personal talents who previously worked in the electrification department.

The company appointed Yang Hee-Won as the new R&D president in January and he will become an important figure in the development of this latest engine design.

In addition, the team will handle various matters including implementing Euro 7 emissions regulations in the European Union to set the basis for future engine launches.

This strategy is implemented in order to answer the dynamics of the automotive market which has changed significantly while at the same time realizing the company's importance of combustion engines to sales in the global market.

This is reinforced by the phenomenon of slowing down the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in the global market, coupled with regulatory adjustments in key markets, such as the US and the European Union highlighting the importance of developing ICE technology.

This strategic adjustment not only answers changes that occur in the market, but also in the sustainable ecosystem. With the increasing efficiency of ICE machines, Hyundai can achieve the goal of a balance between environmental responsibility and long-term gains.
