Dissatisfied With DSP And Social Media, James Blake Joins Superfans Platform

JAKARTA - James Blake decided to join a superfans platform called Vault. The singer, songwriter and music producer from England feels this way is better for him and his fans, than what's on the digital streaming platform (DSP).

Vault is a place to share music more intimately before the song is released elsewhere (if it's your choice), instantly and with the ability to communicate with your audience," wrote James Blake, citing his Instagram, Tuesday, March 26.

'We can't reach our own fans through DSP. Why can't we? Because they are the owner of the data. With Vault, artists have the data," he continued.

Blake doesn't seem to agree with the way the music industry works that requires musicians to work harder to promote on social media. For him, a musician should work.

Subscription allows an artist to focus on making music, not promoting and creating TikTok. Every time I have a song, I want to share it with the world. More than just music, pre-sale tours, etc. There are many interesting ways that can be done in the future, "he said.

"Artists, imagine instead of spending years developing TIkTok/IG followers, you actually develop a fan base on Vault. You'll laugh when the label asks where your viral song is, because you've been paid."

With James Blake joining the superfans platform, those who subscribe have the opportunity to enjoy the release of the artist before the work appears on other platforms.

"Something people may not understand about subscriptioning to, for an artist, that means certainty," said James Blake.

Most artists will tell you that they rarely feel it in their lives. I want artists not to worry too much about what they generate, and reduce fear that leads to uncertainty. We will never be able to eliminate uncertainty in music, but platforms need to encourage artists to make their favorite music the most integral, not just TikTok's big 15-second moment."
