Overturned Ship, SAR Team Still Looking For 9 Missing Fishermen In The Bontang Sea
SAMARINDA - The joint Search And Rescue (SAR) team from various elements in East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) is still looking for nine fishermen missing because their wooden boats capsized in the sea around Tanjung Santan, Bontang City, after being hit by high waves.
"When the incident happened, the fishing boat overturned on Sunday (24/3) night, at around 20.30 WITA, while the report we received about three hours later, at 23.45 WITA to be exact," said Head of the Balikpapan City Search and Rescue Office (KPP) Dody Setiawan when contacted from Samarinda, Monday.
His party received information from the Muara Berau Station Pilot KSOP, that there had been a sea accident in the form of a fishing boat capsized due to large waves, causing 11 fishermen to be adrift in the sea, in the waters of Tanjung Santan.
Some time later there was the Tub Boat (TB) Radiance 03 passing near the scene of the incident and rescuing two people.
A total of two victims were rescued at latitude 00-10,143 S/117-50,255 E (Bantang waters), while the other nine were still on fishing boats.
According to information from the captain of TB Radiance 03, these fishermen came from Bontang City, while this matter has been monitored by KSOP, KP3 Muara Berau Pilot Station, Bontang Radio on Ch 16 and 73, even this news has been submitted to Basarnas and Polairud Bontang City.
Dody explained that after receiving information about an accident, the Balikpapan KPP immediately coordinated with the reporter and made preparations to move to the location, namely moving on Monday, 00.02 WITA.

The joint SAR team involved in the search were the Balikpapan KPP Rescue Team, KSOP Samarinda Station Muara Berau, KP3 Samarinda City, and Polairud Bontang.
"The team departed using KN Wisanggeni 236 Balikpapan, while the equipment carried was medical equipment, water SAR equipment, communication tools, and satellite cellphones. We need to convey that the weather is currently sunny, hopefully this will facilitate the search," he said.
