Getting A Call From Biden, Prabowo Committed To Increase Bilateral Relations Between Indonesia And The US

JAKARTA - Presidential Candidate Prabowo Subianto expressed his commitment to improve friendly relations and cooperation between Indonesia and the United States (US).

The statement was made by Prabowo to United States President Joe Biden who contacted him to congratulate him on his victory in the 2024 presidential election by telephone on Friday (22/3) night.

Biden said Indonesia and the US could expand cooperation in several fields, ranging from trade, investment, health, respect for human rights (HAM), to the clean energy transition.

"We want to be partners," Biden told Prabowo in the conversation that lasted for about five minutes.

Biden also said Indonesia and the US have a shared responsibility, especially in the Pacific region, so he wants to always be friends with Prabowo.

"We have a shared responsibility, especially in the Pacific region. So, I really, really want to be close to you," said Biden.

He also stated that he was happy for Prabowo's victory in the 2024 presidential election, while congratulating him.

"Mr. President-elect, I want to call you the elected President," said Biden.

Prabowo said it was a great honor to be able to speak via direct telephone with Biden.

He also expressed his admiration for the figure of the US 46th President.

"I am a big admirer of you, sir. I have been following your actions for a long time," said Prabowo.

The General Election Commission (KPU) in KPU Decree Number 360 of 2024 stated that Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as President and Vice President for the period 2024-2029 with 96,214,691 votes.

Meanwhile, the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair received 40,971,906 votes, followed by the Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD pair with 27,040,878 votes so that the total valid ballots, according to the KPU, amounted to 164,227,475 votes.
