Prone To Accidents To Congestion, Ministry Of Transportation Reminds People Not To Go Home Using Motorcycles

JAKARTA - Secretary of the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Amirulloh reminded the public not to go home for Lebaran 2024 on motorbikes.

The reason is because it is prone to congestion on non-toll roads and the high risk of traffic accidents.

Therefore, Amirulloh said that the Directorate General of Hubdat held a free homecoming program using buses.

"I once served in Pantura, an accident motorbike in front of me. The motorbike is not suitable for homecoming, especially for long trips. This is behind the Ministry of Transportation doing the free homecoming program," he said in a free homecoming socialization, at the Ministry of Transportation, Jakarta, Friday, March 22.

Referring to the data, the Ministry of Transportation's Transportation Policy Agency (BKT) calculates as many as 66.5 million cars and motorbikes with the potential to move during the 2024 Lebaran homecoming. Amirulloh said several areas on the island of Java, especially East Java, would be a crucial point of density.

"Regarding movement, we can see that the results of the survey by BKT are indeed the largest movements in Java, East Java and Jabodetabek. The crucial points are there," he said.

Still referring to the results of the BKT survey, the area of origin of the most travel during the Eid 2024 period was in East Java with 31.3 million people. Followed by Jabodetabek with 28.43 million people, and Central Java with 26.11 million people.

Meanwhile, for the most destination areas, namely Central Java, 61.6 million people, East Java 37.6 million people, and West Java 32.1 million people.

Amirulloh said to anticipate the movement, the Ministry of Transportation has also collaborated with the Ministry of Home Affairs to invite local governments to participate in providing resting places for travelers.

"At the Ministry of Home Affairs, we are also advised to provide facilities in the areas that are traversed by travelers. So we are not only at the Ministry of Transportation," he said.

Furthermore, Amirulloh said the Ministry of Transportation would also close the weight bridge and temporarily replace it as a resting place, or rest area.

"Indeed, not all rest areas may be very good. But we have also opened the widest opportunity for the private sector to take advantage of the rest area, we are very open," he explained.
