The Deputy Minister Of Communication And Information Expressed The Challenges Faced By Developing Countries In The Digital Age
JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria, mentioned several challenges in the digital era faced by developing countries, including Indonesia.
According to him, the most crucial challenge in this digital era is the fight against information disorder such as hoaxes, bullying, hate speech, defamation and slander.
The next problems are limited resources, language constraints, knowledge gaps, lack of digital infrastructure as well as political and legal barriers.
According to Nezar, this condition has been realized since the 2nd Democracy Summit in Costa Rica which was also attended by hundreds of representatives of countries, multinational companies and civil society and produced a Summit for Democracy Declaration.
"The declaration agreed by 65 across governments emphasizes nine commitments that the state needs to anticipate, including protection of human rights, guarantees for freedom of the Press, and law enforcement; prevent and deal with corruption; improve the use of technology that supports democracy; support fair and quality elections; and address global issues such as sustainable development, climate change and food security," Nezar explained as quoted on Friday, March 22.

The role of the younger generation is clearly very decisive both in the development of technology, especially AI and maintaining and improving the quality of democracy. This is the challenge of democracy in the digital era," he said further.
