Jokowi Ensures Closing Of Broken Embankments In Demak Rampung Today
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the process of closing the Wulan River embankment in Dukuh Norowito, Ngemplik Wetan Village, Karanganyar District, Demak Regency, Central Java Province (Central Java), was completed no later than Friday, March 22, 2024.
"Earlier I asked the Minister of Public Works (Public Works) who had been beaten. We hope that tonight or tomorrow it will be able to close," said President Jokowi after watching a soccer match at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK) Jakarta reported by ANTARA, Thursday, March 21.
He said the collapsed embankment position triggered an abundance of water in a very large discharge and had triggered flooding in a number of local areas.
"Indeed, the water is very large," said President Jokowi.
When asked about his plans to review the location of the flood, President Jokowi only nodded.
The President said that the flood which caused around 24,436 residents of Demak Regency to evacuate had been responded to quickly by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) together with related parties.
