Cyrus Margono Officially Becomes An Indonesian Citizen, Adds Goalkeeper Options In The Indonesian National Team

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team received additional player options under the crossbar after Cyrus Margono officially became an Indonesian citizen (WNI).

This goalkeeper completed the process after undergoing the oath of allegiance as an Indonesian citizen at the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of DKI Jakarta on Thursday, March 21, 2024, morning WIB.

Led by the Head of the Regional Office of the DKI Jakarta Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ibnu Chuldun, the process of taking the Cyrus oath went short and smoothly. After this, Cyrus only needs to take care of her Identity card (KTP) and passport as a complement to her identity as an Indonesian citizen.

In contrast to colleagues who previously took the oath of Indonesian citizens through naturalization, Cyrus actually received an application to become an Indonesian citizen through the channels of the State Secretariat (Setneg) and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kumham).

The problem is, he aims to take Indonesian citizenship which was released previously through the new rules of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights as stated in Government Regulation Number 21 of 2022 concerning Procedures for Obtaining, Losing, Cancellation, and Recurring Citizenship of the Republic of Indonesia.

This situation is similar to that experienced by the Indonesian national team defender of British descent, Elkan Baggott. At that time, Elkan chose to become an Indonesian citizen when he was under 20 years old. After completing the transfer process, he has now held a Identity Card since November 2021.

Cyrus' desire to get the status of an Indonesian citizen has been revealed since 2022. Through an interview on the KR TV YouTube channel, Cyrus, who also has Iranian blood, feels closer to Indonesia and intends to defend the Red and White Team.

However, PSSI did not realize the transfer of his citizenship until he finally managed it through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Cyrus was born to Mount Kisco, United States, on November 9, 2001. She has Indonesian blood from her father, while her mother is from Iran.

Currently, Cyrus is listed as a player who has strengthened Greek club Panathinaikos B. Since joining in 2021, he has played 17 times in the second division of the Greek League or Super League 2 with three clean-sheets and 24-time conceded records.

Cyrus has the opportunity to be able to strengthen the Indonesian national team in the future after officially becoming an Indonesian citizen.

The footballer who occupies the goalkeeper's position can be an option for coach Shin Tae Yong to heat up competition under the Red-White Team's crossbar.
