5.1 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Karatung, North Sulawesi

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that an earthquake measuring 5.1 magnitude occurred on Karatung Island, Talaud, North Sulawesi, Monday 18 March at around 06.41 a.m. Central Indonesian Time (WITA).

Quoted from ANTARA, in an early warning via the infoBMKG application system monitored in Jakarta, Monday, the earthquake coordinates were at coordinates 4.90 degrees north latitude (N), 127.33 degrees east longitude (BT) with a depth of 107 kilometers.

Meanwhile, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the sea 31 kilometers northeast of Karatung Island, North Sulawesi.

However, BMKG has not reported the triggers and impacts of the earthquake, including the potential for a tsunami or not.

The public is advised to remain calm and not be influenced by issues whose truth cannot be justified, until the results of a comprehensive analysis of the incident are officially reported by BMKG.
