Manchester City Has The Opportunity To Record A New Record In The FA Cup Against Newcastle United

JAKARTA - Manchester City have the opportunity to make a new history in the FA Cup when they host Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium for the quarter-final match, Saturday 16 Marat or Sunday morning WIB.

The Citizens, nicknamed Manchester City, won the defending champion after beating city rivals Manchester United 2-1 in last season's final. It was part of their treble winners.

Since last season, Pep Guardiola's men have won their last nine FA Cup games with a fantastic score of 31-3. They also scored 12 goals from three games this season, namely against Huddersfield Town, Tottenham Hotspur, and Luton Town.

After beating Huddersfield 5-0 and beating Spurs 1-0 in the third and fourth rounds, Man City won a landslide 6-2 victory over Luton in the fifth round last month. Erling Haaland became the main star by scoring five goals.

Newcastle is now the barrier for Man City in the quarter-finals. This is the 30th appearance of The Citizens in the FA Cup quarter-finals. They have the opportunity to become the tenth team to appear in this phase the most.

As defending champions, Man City is favored to beat Eddie Howe's side. Moreover, they have lost only three times to the last 37 meetings against The Magpies in all competitions.

If Man City wins over Newcastle, they will be the first team in history to reach the FA Cup semi-finals in six consecutive seasons.

However, Guardiola remains wary of Newcastle. The reason is, the team has beaten City 1-0 in the Premier League Cup for the third round of the season. They also put up a tight fight when they lost 1-0 at Etihad in the Premier League.

"This season and before since Eddie Howe came and the Saudi Arabian people took over, the match against them was always tight. We didn't expect anything different," Guardiola said at a press conference, Friday, March 15.

"We have a good chance at home with full support from fans. We need support from such supporters against Manchester United. I haven't seen an atmosphere like that in a long time," he added. "Tomorrow is not an exception. We need that support to reach the semifinals at Wembley again."

Man City, who have been unbeaten in their last 21 matches in all competitions, are confirmed to play without main playmaker Kevin De Bruyne and main goalkeeper Ederson. Both suffered layoffs and muscles.

However, Guardiola confirmed that Jack Grealish had the opportunity to return after recovering from a groin injury that ruled him out of City's last three games.
