DPD Member Slyviana Murni Proposes Rules For Candidates For Governor Of Betawi Indigenous People In The Jakarta Pilkada

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Committee I DPD Sylviana Murni suggested that the Draft Law on the Special Region of Jakarta (RUU DKJ) regulate special policies for representation of elements of the Betawi tribe in the DKJ regional head election (Pilkada).

"There is a provision that stipulates that political parties will nominate in the regional elections, one of which must be Betawi people," Sylviana said during a working committee meeting (Panja) of the DKJ Bill as reported by ANTARA, Friday, March 15.

According to him, the special policy to include elements of the Betawi ethnic people in the regional elections is the difference between DKJ as a special area after it is no longer the nation's capital, compared to other provinces in Indonesia.

Sylviana said the special policy was like an affirmation of 30 percent of women's representation in parliament, or a special affirmation for Papuan Indigenous People (OAP) to sit down the Regional House of Representatives in Papua.

He then detailed the criteria for Betawi people, the first is the Betawi parents. Second, only the Betawi mother or father. Third, people who contribute and excel and have lived in Jakarta for a long time and fight for the Betawi community.

"Then there are a few more, there are awards to the Betawi people. For example, Mr. Chairman, not Betawi people, but if you contribute a lot to Betawi people, why not?" he said.

Sylviana requested that the special policy of representation of the Betawi ethnic people not only apply to the election of governors and deputy governors, but also applies to the position of mayor.

"There should be a quota in the Regional Regulation (regional regulation), sir. For example, how many mayors are from Betawi, they are properly selected by fifit and proper test, but there must be that criterion (Betawi people), it's just a matter of us Betawi people preparing it with that requirement," he said.

Previously, member of the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR Santoso also said that the Betawi natives had the hope that there would be special treatment to sit in the DKJ government after they were no longer the nation's capital.

"The people of Jakarta, Betawi, want that if they are no longer the capital city, they must also be treated specifically. What does that mean? That governors, deputy governors, mayors or deputy mayors must have elements from the Betawi community who have been marginalized by becoming the capital, but they are guests in their own territory," said Santoso.
