KPK Apologizes To The Indonesian People After Fixing 15 Employees Suspected Of Routine Extortion

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) apologized for the alleged illegal levies carried out in the detention center that ensnared 15 of its employees. Their actions are said to have tarnished the name of the institution.

"We, the leadership of the KPK, together with other structural ranks, apologize to all Indonesian people for this incident," said KPK Deputy Chair Nurul Ghufron at a press conference at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Friday, March 15.

"That this violation injures the value of integrity that has been upheld and guided by KPK personnel in carrying out the task of eradicating corruption," he continued.

Ghufron ensured that his employees who became suspects would be dealt with without exception. The Deputy for Enforcement and Execution will continue to work.

The apology made by 78 employees did not prevent the legal process from being carried out.

"The legal process for corruption is by the deputy for prosecution by determining the 15 individuals who are referred to as suspects in this corruption crime," he said.

In addition, the KPK will continue to improve under the coordination of the Secretary General (Sekjen) of the KPK. "We need to emphasize that the alleged extortion incident is not only completed with an apology," said Ghufron.

Meanwhile, from observations at the location, there were 15 people who were already wearing orange vests. The press conference was also attended by the Director of Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur and the Secretary General of the KPK Cahya H. Harefa.
