Not Clear About Jakarta's Fate, Legislative Council Of The House Of Representatives Continues To Discuss The DKJ Law Tomorrow

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the House of Representatives Achmad Baidowi (Awiek) said the Working Committee for the Draft Law on the Special Region of Jakarta (Panja for the DKJ Bill) will continue discussing the specificity of Jakarta tomorrow, Friday, March 14.

The reason is, the matter of special status for Jakarta after it is no longer the capital city of the state is not yet clear in the draft DKJ Bill.

"Regarding the particularity of Jakarta, it's not clear yet. What do you want to give specialties to Jakarta, that's not clear yet," said Awiek, Thursday, March 14.

In addition, the government's attitude regarding the appointment and dismissal of the head of DKJ by the president is not clear.

Although previously the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) stated that the governor was directly elected through the Pilkada, according to Awiek, the government also touched on the possibility of regional head elections in DKJ through the DPRD.

"The government said that the choice from the DPRD was also democratic. But he had other arguments, other experiences," he said.

Therefore, Awiek said, a meeting on the DKJ Bill could be held by taking factions' day, such as Friday. Moreover, the ratification of the DKJ Bill is targeted to be completed before Eid or on April 5, 2024.

The secretary of the DPR's United Development Party (PPP) faction also asked the public to wait for the results of the DPR Baleg meeting with the government.

"Once again, this is only a draft bill, God willing, tomorrow if we agree to use Friday to hold a work meeting, God willing, it will be completed (a speciality in Jakarta)," said Awiek.
