Health Practitioners Call Fasting Can Make Lambung Disorders Improve

JAKARTA - Health practitioner from the Tamansari Hospital, West Jakarta, dr. Ngabila Salama said that fasting during Ramadan could actually make the disease due to stomach disorders (mag) improve.

According to Ngabila, who serves as Head of the Medical Service Section, with the "rest" of the stomach during Ramadan, the production of acid in it is also reduced.

"For people with mild ulcers that are not severe and acute, fasting can actually make ulcers improve, because of the lack of gastric acid production due to lack of work during fasting," said Ngabila, who also serves as a staff in the Technical Division of Health Transformation Communication of the Indonesian Ministry of Health when contacted in Jakarta, Tuesday.

However, he did not recommend fasting for people with acute mag.

"For people with mag, if they are acute and relapse with symptoms of severe vomiting, don't fast first," said dr. Ngabila.

"If it is light and moderate, it does not recur, it is permissible to fast," he said.

"Fasting can cure because stomach activity decreases during fasting, stomach acid production decreases, mag will recover," said Ngabila.
