Ministry Of Transportation Survey Results: Trains Are Still The Choice Of Homecomers For Eid 2024

JAKARTA - The mode of mass transportation, trains are still the choice of the community to go home in Lebaran 2024. Based on the results of a survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency, the Ministry of Transportation, people who go home by train are predicted to reach 39.32 million people.

The survey was conducted in collaboration with the Central Statistics Agency, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, and involved experts and academics in the transportation sector.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi conveyed that based on the survey results, the national movement of people during Lebaran 2024 was 193.6 million people. This figure is an increase compared to the potential movement of people during the 2023 Eid period, namely 123.8 million people.

Budi also said that the results of this survey had been reported to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and had been informed to relevant stakeholders such as ministries/agencies, local governments, Korlantas Polri, BUMN and the private sector.

"The movement of the community nationally has the potential to reach 7.17 percent of the total population of Indonesia or reach 193.6 million people," Budi said in an official statement, Tuesday, March 12.

Budi said that of the 193.6 million people who are predicted to go home on Lebaran 2024, 35.42 million choose to use private cars. Then, motorcycles amounted to 31.12 million people

"The train of fire is 20.3 percent or 39.32 million. The community's interest is influenced by several factors," he said.

Budi also revealed the factors that affected him were the absence of COVID-19, family economy, collective leave, school holidays, improving the quality and quantity of transportation infrastructure, and weather conditions.

Furthermore, Budi said the estimated peak of the homecoming day based on the choice of the community is D-2 or Monday, April 8, 2024 or when the joint leave begins with a potential movement of 26.6 million people or 13.7 percent.

"Meanwhile, the estimated peak of the return day is D+3, namely Sunday, April 14, 2024 with a potential movement of 41 million people or 21.2 percent," he explained.
