PSSI Chairman Welcomes League 1 Next Season Represented By All Island Team: All Indonesian League

JAKARTA - The 2024/2025 Liga 1 season competition will be more interesting, because there are representatives from every island in Indonesia. This moment was also welcomed by the General Chairperson (Ketum) of PSSI, Erick Thohir.

Previously, it was confirmed that there were three teams from League 2 that were successfully promoted to League 1, the three teams were PSBS Biak, Semen Padang, and North Maluku (Malut) United.

With the presence of these three teams, there is Semen Padang representing Sumatra Island, Papua represented by PSBS Biak and Malut United which will return the teams from Maluku Island to the highest caste of Indonesian football.

"Congratulations to the three teams that have been promoted. And this adds to the excitement of the league because the three promotional teams represent areas outside Java with different island areas. This is really the Indonesian league," said Erick Thohir as quoted from PSSI's official website, Sunday, March 10.

Erick explained that so far the Indonesian League has been inhabited by many representatives from Java. This was added by two teams from Kalimantan, namely Borneo and Barito and Bali United, who represented Bali and Nusa Tenggara.

In addition, there is already PSM Makassar representing the island of Sulawesi. With the presence of Semen Padang representing Sumatra, Malut United (Maluku island), and PSBS Biak (Papua) all islands were represented.

All Indonesian representatives already exist. This will be very interesting to wait for the competition. Plus, this will certainly increase the maximum to encourage the growth and regeneration of young players on every island," said Erick.

The promotion of the three teams from Liga 2 at the same time dismissed an issue that said next season there would only be one team that was promoted and relegated. Erick emphasized that PSSI is consistent and firm in the competition system.

"So firmly, next season there will be three teams that promote and relegate," he said.
