KPUPR Renovation 50 Schools Worth IDR 100 Billion, Minister Basuki: The Idea Is From My Wife

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Human Settlements has rehabilitated 50 units of the Men's Education Foundation School (YPP) in 18 provinces of Indonesia.

YPP is an educational foundation assisted by the Ministry of PUPR which has been established since December 10, 1976. The rehabilitation program has been going on throughout 2023 for infrastructure ranging from kindergarten to junior high school.

The budget for rehabilitation and renovation comes from the 2023 fiscal year (TA), which reaches around Rp. 100 billion.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the idea for the renovation and rehabilitation activities came from his wife, Kartika Basuki Hadimuljono. Thus, in 2022 it was agreed to rehabilitate the 50 schools.

"Why did Mrs. Kartika come, not because of my wife, but because this was her idea. She asked that our kindergarten, elementary and junior high school under YPP be renovated," Basuki said in his remarks at the Inauguration of Rehabilitation and Renovation of Facilities and Infrastructure of YPP, at the Auditorium of the Ministry of PUPR, Jakarta, Saturday, March 9.

"Once again, because this idea was really from him to be able to renovate and rehabilitate the schools in us because he knew (PUPR) was building in Islamic boarding schools, public schools. Why don't we pay attention to it. Thank God, it's not too late. 2023 we can do this. Thank you, ma'am, i love u full," he continued.

Basuki said that in the future the main task is to keep these school buildings maintained and maintained. He also hopes that the facilities that have been available can be utilized as well as possible.

"With the completion of this renovation, there are several things that we want to order. First, to the principals and their coaches, the head of the hall in their respective neighborhoods, the 18 provinces, please make the best use of the infrastructure and facilities that we have prepared. We will continue to be able to improve the quality of education," he said.

In addition, Basuki also advised that maintenance of facilities and infrastructure should not only be carried out during construction, but also be sustainable in the future. The hope is that the maintenance program can be one of the annual routine programs of the implementing center in the areas where the school is located.

"Hopefully this can be our contribution. Even though it's small, this is where our young generation will be nursed in the future. Later, in 2045 they will be 25 years old," said Basuki.

On the same occasion, Director of Strategic Infrastructure of the Directorate General of Human Settlements, Ministry of PUPR Essy Asiah, said that the rehabilitation followed up on the results of the YPP management hearings with PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono on June 23, 2022.

From the hearing, the Directorate General of Human Settlements received directions to carry out the rehabilitation and renovation of infrastructure for all YPP.

"In 2023, we should be grateful that the Ministry of PUPR through Cipta Karya together with the Implementing Center in 18 provinces in Indonesia has completed 50 educational infrastructure units, consisting of 47 kindergarten units, 2 elementary schools and 1 junior high school unit," he said.
