French Open 2024: Indonesia Only Has Two Representatives

JAKARTA Indonesia only has two representatives in the quarter-finals of the French Open 2024.

Actually, Indonesia sent 13 representatives to this Super 750 BWF event. However, the majority had already returned early when the tournament had just entered the second half.

Indonesia's hopes now live on the shoulders of Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo's men's singles and the men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

Chico secured the place of the quarter-finals after successfully overthrowing representatives of China Taipei, Su Li Yang, in the rubber game, 21-18, 17-21, and 21-16 matches.

As for Fajar/Rian, they made sure to qualify for the quarter-finals after defeating the Japanese men's doubles, Kenya Mitsuhashi/Hiroki Okamura, through two straight games 21-12 and 21-18.

Chico and Fajar/Rian will play the quarter-finals at Adidas Arena, Friday, March 8, 2024, local time. Chico will face Anders Antonsen who is the fourth seed from Denmark.

Previously, Chico and Antonsen had only met once in a competitive event, namely at the Indonesia Masters 2024. At that time, Chico lost two straight games.

Meanwhile, Fajar/Rian will be challenged by representatives of China Taipei, Lee Jhe Huei/Yang Po Hsuan. On paper, Fajar/Rian has a 5-1 win-loss record over the pair.

Indonesia actually has six representatives playing in the second half. Unfortunately, the other four representatives could not follow in the footsteps of Chico and Fajar/Rian.

The four representatives who returned home in the second half were Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Dejan Ferdinandsyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, and Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.
