Regarding The Loss Of K-pop Songs, Kakao M Calls Spotify Terminating The License Agreement

JAKARTA - After Spotify, now it's Kakao M's turn to make a statement regarding the disappearance of K-pop songs from the streaming platform.

Previously, Spotify stated that the expired license agreement was the cause of all the songs being deleted.

Kakao M confirmed the statement. However, they added that Spotify was the party that chose not to renew the contract even though Kakao M had requested a share.

Kakao M is considering providing a music catalog on Spotify Korea only or globally. This plan is still under discussion and Kakao M is asking for a contract renewal.

Billboard's Jeff Benjamin wrote on his Twitter, a source reported that various artists and labels that Kakao M previously distributed were looking for new distribution partners.

One of them is the agency owned by the soloist PSY, P-NATION, where the catalog of their two artists, HyunA and Jessi is back on Spotify. But fans saw the two artists' total streams return from zero.
