Mahfud MD Calls Jokowi's Fate Can Be Like Suharto Being Dragged To Court If The Right To Assessment Is Rolled Out In The DPR

JAKARTA - Vice Presidential Candidate number three, Mahfud MD, emphasized that the discourse on the right of inquiry in the DPR to investigate allegations of fraud in the 2024 General Election cannot impeach President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Because, the process will take a long time even though the current government ends on October 20.

"It will take months (the process, ed). (The month, red) October will not be completed," Mahfud said as quoted from Bachtiar Nasir's YouTube channel on Wednesday, March 6.

Mahfud detailed that the fastest rights for inquiry will run in the DPR no later than three months. If the recommendation is to impeach President Jokowi, a trial will be held.

Members of the DPR who had to come in the trial reached 2/3 of the entire council and they had to agree. Then, the Constitutional Court (MK) will try.

Even so, Mahfud said there were also recommendations for follow-up to fraud through legal channels. Later, the process will be submitted to the Attorney General's Office (AGO) and can still be carried out if the government is currently over.

Even though the term of government has ended, the president can be brought to court like President Suharto brought to court. However, because of permanent illness, the case is closed," he said.

"So it's not nothing for the right of inquiry," continued the former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam).

Previously reported, Ganjar Pranowo, who is the third presidential candidate, encouraged his supporting party in parliament, namely the PDI-P (PDIP) and the United Development Party (PPP) to roll out the right of inquiry. He conveyed this discourse because of allegations of fraud in the 2024 presidential election.

This step was then followed by the number one pair camp, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar or AMIN. The supporting parties, namely the NasDem Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) admitted that they would support the issuance of the right to investigate.
