Anies’ Plan To Ban Cars Over 10 Years Old From Passing The Streets Gets Criticized By Regional House Of Representatives
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan will prohibit cars over the age of 10 years old from crossing the capital. This is stated in the Governor's Instruction Number 66 of 2019 concerning Air Quality Control.
In this regulation, Anies asked his staff to ensure that no private vehicle over 10 years old can operate in the DKI Jakarta area. This ban takes effect in 2025.
However, this plan was criticized by a member of the DKI Jakarta House of Representatives (DPRD) from the PDIP faction, Gilbert Simanjuntak. Gilbert admits this plan is good for reducing air pollution in Jakarta.
Unfortunately, Gilbert thought the plan to ban old cars from passing would create new problems. People will buy more new cars later.
"DKI will ban cars over 10 years old of operation. But the tax on car purchases under 1500 cc is zero percent. Automatically, people will move to buy new cars with zero percent tax", Gilbert told VOI, Monday, March 1.
Possibly, the impact that will occur is that there is no significant reduction in the number of vehicles passing, as well as more and more old car waste because they are no longer used.
Therefore, Gilbert asked Anies Baswedan to improve the public transportation system first before promulgating a ban on vehicles over 10 years old from crossing in Jakarta.
"Public transportation now has not reached all of them. The JakLingko is also still minimal. People will move to public transportation if the facility is more comfortable. If it is not comfortable, people will rebel", he explained.
