The Indonesian House Of Representatives Has Been Determined To Host The 19th OKI Parliament Conference In 2025

JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives was asked to host the OKI Parliament Conference in 2025. This was decided when the Chairman of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) became Chair of the Asian Group Session at the 18th Conference of the Union of the OIC (PUIC), the OKI Parliament forum, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, March 2-5, 2024. PUIC appointed Indonesia to host the 19th PUIC Conference in 2025. This determination also strengthens Indonesia as the 19th President of PUIC.

Fadli Zon, Chairman of the DPR Delegation to the 18th PUIC Conference who is also the Chairman of the BKSAP DPR RI, conveyed the readiness of the DPR RI as the organizer of the main meeting of the OKI Parliament forum.

To note, the DPR in recent years has succeeded in hosting various regional and international parliamentary forums, including the 144th Inter-Parlaimentary Union (IPU) General Assembly in 2020, the 8th G20 Parliamentary Speaker Summit (P20) in 2022, the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly (AIPA) and 2023. In addition, in 2024 the DPR will also soon hold the 10th World Water Forum and the Indonesia Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP).

Regarding the initiative of the DPR as the host of the 19th PUIC Conference, Fadli explained, "Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, and as the people's representative, we hope that by hosting the upcoming 19th PUIC Conference we can convey a message of great potential for Indonesian Muslims to contribute to world peace and prosperity."

Furthermore, the Deputy Chairperson of Gerindra hopes that the DPR can become a driving force for the Islamic world for the movement in supporting Palestine and encouraging Islamic countries to be part of various global challenges such as climate change, inclusion economy, and women's empowerment.

Pada 2-5 Maret 2024 Delegasi DPR ikut berpartisipasi pada Konferensi PUIC ke-18 di Abidjan, Pantai Gading. Delegasi Indonesia dipimpin Fadli Zon (Fraksi Gerindra) dengan anggota Hugua (Fraksi PDIP), dan Fathan Subchi Badawi (F PKB).

During the 18th PUIC Conference, the DPR Delegation actively conveyed ideas and policy breakthroughs related to strategic issues, including encouraging regulations related to freedom of expression that do not contain hate speech and division, interfaith and cultural dialogue to remove negative views on Islam or Islamophobia, as well as protection efforts against women and children, especially those in conflict and occupation areas.
