The 2024 General Election After, The Ministry Of Industry Admits That The Textile Industry Is Still Sluggish

JAKARTA - The 2024 general election (Pemilu) will be held on February 14. The government through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is optimistic that the 2024 election event can boost the performance of the textile industry.

However, the Ministry of Industry noted that the textile and textile product (TPT) industry is still experiencing contraction until the end of this February.

"We see, yes, for the 2024 election, the textile industry does not seem to use a lot of textile or textile products," said Ministry of Industry spokesman Febri Hendri Antoni Arif at the Ministry of Industry office, Jakarta, quoted Friday, March 1.

Febri assessed that if the momentum of the 2024 General Election falls in February, production of TPT products should increase in December 2023. This is because the production was carried out in that month.

"Actually, for example, if the election was in February, the production should have increased in December (2023) because the production was carried out in December. Maybe yesterday the textile and textile industry spent its stock as well," he said.

In addition, said Febri, his party also saw the cause of the contraction in the textile industry due to the decline in demand from abroad.

"And we also know that government spending on this textile product, right, the budget year is also just starting and we hope that the spending of textile products from government spending, especially in March and April in the future, will also increase demand for textile products," he said.

Furthermore, Febri said, industrial business actors are now waiting for the results of the 2024 General Election. This is because this is a consideration for business actors to increase their production to the depot

"Perhaps industrial business actors are still seeing whether they will increase their production or not while waiting for the election results. So, we are still seeing some of the sub-sectors after the election has started to increase production," he concluded.

As previously reported, the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita admitted that the textile industry has not fully risen, even though there is a momentum for the 2024 General Election.

"The textile industry has started to improve (even though it is still) a contraction," said Minister of Industry Agus when met at the Ministry of Industry office, Jakarta, Thursday, February 1.

Minister of Industry Agus assessed that currently industrial business actors are still waiting for the results of the 2024 General Election.

"In my view and experience, every time there is an election cycle, business actors are usually waiting and seeing and waiting. Optimistically, they are suppressed because they do not dare, they are also still waiting for the results of the 2024 presidential election in particular," he said.
