Sergi Darder Inter Real Mallorca To The King Cup Final Through A Dramatic Penalty Kick
JAKARTA The substitute Sergi Darder brought Real Mallorca to the King Cup final in a dramatic penalty kick at Real Sociedad headquarters, Wednesday, February 28 in the morning.
Guests managed to score all five of their penalties after Mikel Oyarzabal failed in the hosts' first attempt to head into the top match against Athletic Bilbao or Atletico Madrid, who met on Thursday 29 February at the San Mates Stadium while Bilbao maintained a 1-0 lead over the first leg.
Mallorca, who is in 16th position at LaLiga, took the lead at Reale Arena through Giovanni Gonzalez's header after Dominik Greif's goalkeeper saved Brais Mendez's penalty but Oyarzabal scored 1-1 to force the game into extra time.
Mikel Merino, whose goal in the final minute secured a 2-1 league win over Mallorca earlier this month, missed a run when he made a high shot and eight minutes wide after the game started, but Dani Rodriguez also didn't waste a chance five minutes later.
Arsen Zakharyan threatened with a long-range shot as the hosts pressed for a goal, but Abdon Prats almost opened the scoring for guests six minutes before the break.
However, Sociedad, who was ranked seventh, was given a golden opportunity to open the scoring at the end of the first half when Antonio Raillo was deemed to have handball in the area, but Greif saved Mendez's penalty.
