Carsurin and NBRI Strengthen Strategic Alliance to Propel Indonesia’s EV Industry
JAKARTA - PT Carsurin Tbk (Carsurin) and the National Battery Research Institute (NBRI) are pleased to announce the signing of a pivotal Strategic Alliance Agreement (SAA), marking a significant advancement in their collaboration to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the electric vehicle (EV) industry.
This agreement, effective immediately, lays down a concrete framework for the establishment and operation of a state-of-the-art EV battery testing facility in Indonesia, a cornerstone in the nation's drive towards sustainable mobility and technological leadership in the EV sector.
This collaboration between Carsurin, Indonesia's leading Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) company with over 55 years of expertise, and NBRI, a foundation at the forefront of battery and renewable energy innovation, is set to revolutionize the EV landscape in Indonesia and beyond. The strategic alliance focuses on combining Carsurin's extensive commercial experience and technical prowess with NBRI's cutting-edge research capabilities and deep insights into EV battery technology.
The EV battery testing facility, as envisioned under this alliance, will provide comprehensive laboratory testing services for EV battery cells, modules and packs across various scenarios and conditions. This includes but is not limited to performance testing, cycle life testing, environmental testing, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, safety and compliance testing, and Battery Management System (BMS) evaluation. Initial efforts will prioritize 2-wheel and 3-wheel vehicles, aligning with Indonesia's vast market for these modes of transportation, followed by 4-wheel vehicles in the next phase.
"The establishment of this EV battery testing facility marks a momentous step in our journey towards a greener, more sustainable future for Indonesia. Through our strategic alliance with NBRI, we are not just creating infrastructure; we are building the foundation for Indonesia to become a leader in the global EV landscape. This lab facility represents our dedication to excellence, innovation, and a commitment to the environmental well-being of our planet," says Sheila Tiwan, President Director of PT Carsurin Tbk.
The alliance underscores both parties' commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability, aiming to ensure that EV battery technologies developed and deployed in Indonesia meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental stewardship. By fostering a conducive ecosystem for EV adoption and innovation, Carsurin and NBRI are set to make significant strides in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing the nation's energy security, while also positioning Indonesia as a key player in the global EV industry.
Dr. Evvy Kartini, Founder of NBRI, comments: "This partnership with Carsurin is a testament to our shared vision for a sustainable and technologically advanced Indonesia. By pooling our resources and expertise, we are setting new standards for EV battery testing, research, and innovation. This facility is not just a lab; it's a beacon of progress, symbolizing our country's potential to drive global change in the EV industry. Together, we are steering towards a future where renewable energy and technology create a cleaner, more sustainable world for generations to come."
Under the SAA, Carsurin and NBRI will share responsibilities in various domains, including technical expertise, knowledge sharing, commercialization strategy, market positioning, and regulatory compliance. Carsurin will spearhead investment in capital expenditure for lab testing equipment and manage the day-to-day operations of the lab, while NBRI will provide necessary premises for the operation at its Indonesian Life Science Center facility. The partnership also involves collaborative marketing and promotional efforts to enhance lab facility visibility and engage a diverse clientele.
This strategic alliance not only signifies a leap towards achieving Indonesia's vision of becoming a global hub for EV battery production but also represents a model of collaboration between the private sector and research institutions in driving forward national priorities on innovation and sustainability.
